A five-year-old girl, missing from her home in Bhopal for two days, was found dead in a water tank at a neighbor's house, according to police on Thursday. The child, who lived in the Shahjahanabad locality, vanished on Tuesday afternoon while her parents were away. She had informed her grandmother that she was going to fetch a book from a friend's house but never returned.

Additional Commissioner of Police Punit Upadhyay stated, 'The girl was missing for over 36 hours. Her body was discovered in a water tank at a house across from her home on Thursday. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further information will be shared upon receiving the report.'

Describing the ordeal, the girl's mother said, 'My daughter told her grandmother around 12 pm on Tuesday that she was going to get a book from her friend's house. She has not been seen since. When my husband and I got home and realized she was missing, we began searching but found no trace of her.' Despite over 24 hours passing with no action from authorities, the police began investigations, utilizing CCTV footage which showed the girl returning home and then leaving again. An FIR was registered, and efforts to locate her intensified. A forensic examination of a municipal vehicle present nearby at the time of her disappearance yielded no evidence.
