Amid intense flooding in West Bengal, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury revealed on Wednesday that over eight districts have suffered extensive damage, affecting lakhs of residents. 'Eight to nine districts in West Bengal are heavily damaged due to flooding. Upon visiting, I saw lakhs suffering. This is all because of DVC,' Chowdhury told ANI.

On Tuesday, Chowdhury visited Hooghly's Jagatpur, criticizing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for not visiting flood-affected areas. Instead, Banerjee celebrated her party leader's bail in Birbhum. Concurrently, West Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikari met flood-affected residents in Ghatal, Paschim Medinipur district.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP-led Central government of causing the floods by mishandling water release in Jharkhand. 'Flood control is under the central government. Their inaction led to the flooding of lakhs of homes,' she said, warning that the situation would worsen if the DVC released more water from its dams.

Banerjee urged the Prime Minister to take her concerns seriously and requested funds for flood management to aid the affected population. 'More areas may flood if DVC continues releasing water,' she warned.
