In an effort to bolster relationships with the agricultural sector, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan initiated a series of dialogues with farmers and their organisations in Delhi on Tuesday.

Highlighting agriculture as the cornerstone of India's economy, Chouhan equated serving farmers to worshipping God. He committed to holding these meetings every Tuesday for a more nuanced understanding of farmers' issues rather than relying solely on office interactions.

The minister underscored the government's commitment to the agriculture sector, mentioning the approval of seven significant schemes within the first 100 days of the Modi government's third term, totalling an investment of Rs 15,000 crore. These include the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) with a Rs 35,000 crore allocation.

Chouhan noted that during these dialogues, farmers voiced concerns about crop prices, insurance schemes, and stray animals. He assured efforts to address these issues. He also praised recent government actions, such as changes in import and export duties on various crops, which have been positively received by farmers.

On the stubble management issue, Chouhan cited extensive research and the development of machines to prevent stubble burning. He stressed the necessity of raising awareness to turn stubble into a valuable resource.

Chouhan concluded that these dialogues are a step towards strengthening the partnership between the government and the farming community.
