The finance ministry announced on Tuesday that the Supreme Court has resolved 573 direct tax cases following the revised monetary limits for filing appeals outlined in the Union Budget 2024-25.
The Budget increased the monetary limits for appeals related to direct taxes, excise, and service tax in tax tribunals, high courts, and the Supreme Court to Rs 60 lakh, Rs 2 crore, and Rs 5 crore, respectively.
The ministry noted that the Supreme Court had disposed of 573 direct tax cases where the tax effect was below Rs 5 crore, in line with the new limits. These changes are part of the government's broader initiative to cut down on tax litigation and enhance the ease of doing business.
