Russia will not resume nuclear tests as long as the United States holds off on conducting them, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told the TASS news agency on Monday.

In a recent interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, Andrei Sinitsyn, head of Russia's nuclear test site at Novaya Zemlya, indicated that the site is prepared for full-scale testing.

Ryabkov clarified that recent actions at the Novaya Zemlya site were in reaction to analogous measures undertaken by the United States.
