Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara announced on Monday that police have uncovered significant information about the gruesome murder of a woman whose dismembered body was discovered in a refrigerator in her Bengaluru home. Parameshwara indicated that a man from West Bengal is a key suspect, although more evidence is needed to confirm his involvement.

"The police have collected a lot of information and clues. There is one individual who they believe may be involved. However, we need more information before making a conclusive statement. This suspect is believed to be from West Bengal," said Parameshwara during a briefing. Addressing concerns about women's safety, the minister emphasized that numerous precautions have already been implemented, including the installation of CCTV cameras in areas frequently visited by women.

The 29-year-old victim, identified as Mahalakshmi, was living alone in a rented house in Vinayaka Nagar in Vyalikaval, Bengaluru, for the last five months. Her decomposed body parts, found on Saturday, suggest the murder might have occurred two weeks ago. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Bengaluru, Shekar H Tekkannavar, confirmed the victim's identity.

The case has incited political conflict, with the BJP launching a vehement attack on the Congress-led Karnataka government, claiming a deterioration in law and order. The BJP's state unit accused the current administration of endangering the safety of citizens and criticized its policies, including opposition to anti-love jihad laws, alleging these actions are driven by vote-bank politics.
