A section of the under-construction Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur Bridge near Nandani Lagunia Railway Station reportedly dismantled on Sunday, igniting a political firestorm. Manager Mohan Singh clarified that the incident was not a collapse but part of a planned dismantling process.
The event prompted political reactions, with RJD leader Mrityunjay Tiwari condemning the government's handling of infrastructure projects. 'Crime in Bihar is on the rise. The trend of bridges collapsing in Bihar continues. The government is exposed. Corruption is at its peak,' Tiwari remarked.
In defense, JDU leader Neeraj Kumar emphasized the administration's commitment to construction under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. 'Bridges are being built on the Ganga approximately every 40 km. How could it collapse when the span casting wasn't even done? It was a six-year-old beam that had corroded,' Kumar explained. The Supreme Court has since requested a detailed audit of all existing and under-construction bridges in Bihar.
