Congress President Malikarjun Kharge on Monday congratulated Anura Kumara Dissanayake on being elected as the Executive President of Sri Lanka. In a message on social platform X, Kharge said, 'On behalf of the Indian National Congress, I extend my heartiest congratulations to Anura Kumara Dissanayake on his election as the Executive President of Sri Lanka.'

India and Sri Lanka share a rich legacy of multifaceted cooperation and interaction, stretching back centuries. The people of India are eager to strengthen ties and shared values for the benefit of the region, Kharge added. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Dissanayake on social platform X, following the Sri Lankan Presidential election successes on Sunday.

PM Modi emphasized that Sri Lanka holds a crucial place in India's Neighbourhood First Policy and Vision SAGAR, focusing on cooperative maritime security and prosperity. 'Congratulations, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, on your victory. I look forward to working closely with you to enhance our multifaceted cooperation for the benefit of our people and region,' Modi stated.

India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, also conveyed his greetings to Dissanayake. 'India, as Sri Lanka's civilizational twin, is committed to deepening ties for mutual prosperity,' Jha said in an X post following a meeting with Dissanayake.
