Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday inaugurated the Convention Centre at Martyr's Memorial Park in Dhekiajuli, unveiling statues of martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Quit India Movement of 1942. The State government allocated Rs. 11.94 crore in the 2020-21 budget for this project to commemorate the martyrs' enduring legacy.

Initiated on October 12, 2020, the project is now open to the public, offering a space for future generations to draw inspiration from past heroism and patriotism. During the event organized by the Cultural Affairs Department in cooperation with the Sonitpur District Administration, CM Sarma emphasized the pivotal role of the undivided Darrang District in India's freedom struggle.

Sarma highlighted several ongoing governmental efforts to uncover and honor Assam's rich historical legacy, including renaming roads, establishing the Convention Centre, and unveiling statues in Dhekiajuli. Key projects like celebrating Lachit Borphukan's 400th birth anniversary, proposing Swahid Kanaklata Barua State University, and converting Jorhat Central Jail into a Freedom Movement Park were also pointed out as significant milestones.
