RPF Confiscates Rs 23.50 Crore Worth Contraband from Northeast Frontier Railway in 2023

In a significant crackdown on illegal activities, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway has seized contraband goods valued over Rs 23.50 crore from January to August 2023, officials reported on Saturday.

The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northeast Frontier Railway disclosed that 283 peddlers were apprehended during this period for illegal possession of contraband goods. A notable operation was conducted on September 2, where a joint team of RPF and Government Railway Police (GRP) of Lumding carried out inspections on train no. 01666 (Agartala-Rani Kamalapati Express) Special at Lumding railway station.

In this operation, four individuals were apprehended, and the team recovered 19.7 grams of brown sugar worth approximately Rs 3.94 lakh and 18.10 kilograms of ganja worth around Rs 1.81 lakh. The suspects and the recovered items were subsequently handed over to authorities for further legal proceedings, officials confirmed.
