The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) staged a rally on Saturday to demand justice for the rape and murder victim from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Addressing the gathering, CITU president Subhash Mukherjee stated they were united in their call for justice and for the perpetrator to be held accountable.
'Today, we are rallying for justice for the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder victim and seeking punishment for the culprit,' Mukherjee told ANI. The heinous crime has incited widespread protests from citizens and doctors across West Bengal. The victim, a trainee woman doctor, was tragically found dead in the seminar hall of the college on August 9.
The horrifying incident has escalated into a political showdown, with the BJP demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. In an unrelated case, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on September 10 remanded Sandip Ghosh and three others to judicial custody until September 23, due to financial irregularities at the college. Ghosh was arrested by the CBI's Anti-Corruption Branch on September 2 following a High Court order for a probe. Additionally, the CBI recently conducted a second polygraph test on Ghosh as part of their ongoing investigation into the rape-murder case.
