The Indian Cancer Genome Atlas (ICGA) has unveiled India's first comprehensive cancer multi-omics data portal, marking a significant milestone in the nation's cancer research and treatment landscape. This open-access platform offers clinically correlated data specific to Indian cancer patients, challenging the dependency on Western datasets traditionally used in the country.
ICGA's portal includes DNA, RNA, and protein profiles of breast cancer patients, currently featuring data from 50 individuals, with plans to expand to 500 within a year. The platform adheres to India's PRIDE guidelines, promoting ethical data sharing and international collaboration. Built on the world-renowned cBioPortal, it integrates with global cancer research initiatives, aiming to foster personalized treatments for Indian patients.
Leaders in cancer research, including Professor Shekhar C. Mande and Dr. Anand Deshpande, highlighted the portal's potential to accelerate scientific discoveries and improve patient outcomes. The ICGA invites global researchers to contribute to this initiative, aspiring to revolutionize cancer treatment by providing critical genomic and proteomic data tailored to the Indian context.
