Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday accused the Congress and the National Conference of fostering terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in thousands of deaths over their 35-year rule. 'You are responsible for this,' Shah stated at an election rally in the Poonch district's Surankot area.
Shah alleged that National Conference President Farooq Abdullah had incited fear by claiming terrorism would spread. 'But no one will bring terrorism to the hills. I assure you, we will end terrorism,' he added. Shah also rebuked Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, for his remarks on Sikhs, asserting that 'there will be no talks with Pakistan until it stops terrorism,' he affirmed.
Shah reiterated the BJP's election promises for the region, including financial benefits for women and Ujjwala beneficiaries, and an increase in the annual PM-Kisan amount. He praised the bravery of the locals against terrorism and targeted Congress, the National Conference, and PDP for their manifesto promises.
Shah highlighted that the BJP government has brought significant change, ending the control of three influential political families in the region and increasing local youth political participation. He stressed, 'The youth here have been given laptops instead of stones.'
Reflecting on security improvements, Shah stated, 'Previously, there was frequent firing, but now Pakistan fears Prime Minister Narendra Modi.' This election marks the first since the abrogation of Article 370, with intense campaigns underway for the upcoming phases of voting.
