BSP Chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has called on the Central Government to establish uniform guidelines for the use of bulldozers in demolitions. She emphasized that the absence of such guidelines has prompted the Supreme Court to intervene and rule against what she termed as illegalities. Mayawati asserts that the increasing use of bulldozers should not be seen as symbols of the rule of law.

Mayawati stated, 'Despite bulldozer demolition not being rule of law, the increasing trend of its use is a matter of concern. However, when the general public does not agree with the bulldozer or any other matter, the Centre should come forward and make uniform guidelines for the whole country, which is not being done.'

This statement follows a recent Supreme Court order that halted property demolitions across India without court permission until October 1. The court clarified that unauthorized constructions on public roads and footpaths are exceptions. The order came during hearings of petitions challenging the bulldozing of properties. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav thanked the Supreme Court for its intervention, describing the bulldozer as a symbol of injustice.
