In a sharp rebuke, BJP National Spokesperson CR Kesavan on Tuesday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of attempting to deflect responsibility in the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata by merely transferring senior police and health officials.
Following Banerjee's decision to remove top officials, Kesavan stated, 'The official minutes of the meeting yesterday have no mention of any suspension from Government duty. It merely mentions transfers of senior Police and Health officials. A mere transfer is nothing but a ploy. It is an eyewash by Mamata Banerjee and the West Bengal Govt to dodge responsibility in the heinous rape and murder of the trainee doctor.'
On TMC claiming disagreements among doctors, Kesavan responded, 'Whatever diversionary tactics they use, the buck clearly stops at the desk of Mamata Banerjee.' He also questioned the transfer of former RG Kar Hospital principal Sandeep Ghosh, insinuating it was a promotion disguised as a transfer.
Mamata Banerjee, addressing protesting doctors, announced her agreement to most of their demands. 'Given the demand of junior doctors, Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal has said he is ready to resign,' Banerjee said, pledging government's commitment to their requests and emphasizing public interest by urging junior doctors to return to work.
She further added, 'We have accepted 3 of their 4 demands...DC North will also be removed and a decision will be taken about the new DC tomorrow. Full attention will be paid to the security of the doctors.' The protests follow the gruesome rape and murder of a trainee woman doctor found dead on August 9 at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
