Adani Group has won a significant bid to supply 6,600 MW of bundled renewable and thermal power to Maharashtra, securing a long-term contract against rivals JSW Energy and Torrent Power. Sources indicate that the Rs 4.08 per unit quote from Adani overshadowed the competition and aims to address future electricity needs of the state.

The contract, valid for 25 years, will see Adani providing solar power at a fixed rate of Rs 2.70 per unit while the coal-based power will adjust based on coal prices. This rate is almost one rupee lower than Maharashtra's current electricity procurement costs, presenting a significant savings for the state.

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) had floated a unique tender in March to source 5,000 MW of solar power and 1,600 MW of thermal power, targeting peak energy demands and ensuring a balanced supply during non-solar hours like nighttime and monsoon seasons. The combined approach is designed to maximize efficiency and cost-effectiveness, ensuring the state's future energy requirements are met.
