DRDO Successfully Completes First Phase Trials of Indian Light Tank Zorawar

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully completed the initial phase of developmental field firing trials for the Indian Light Tank, Zorawar. In a post on X, PRO, Defence, Guwahati confirmed the successful trial and highlighted the collaborative effort with Indian industry to enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities.
The DRDO conducted these preliminary automotive trials on September 13, 2024. The versatile tank, designed for deployment in high-altitude areas, demonstrated exceptional performance in desert terrain, efficiently meeting all set objectives. The tank's firing accuracy on designated targets was rigorously evaluated, achieving the required precision, according to the Ministry of Defence.
Developed by the Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE) in collaboration with Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T), Zorawar benefits from contributions by numerous Indian industries, including MSMEs. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded all involved parties, calling this a significant milestone towards India's self-reliance in defense systems. The tank, integrated with USV and loitering munition, will initially see 59 units delivered to the army, with a notable capacity for rapid deployment in mountainous terrains via C-17 aircraft.
