Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday for renaming Port Blair to 'Sri Vijaya Puram', aligning with his commitment to remove vestiges of colonialism. Vijayvargiya lauded the move, marking it as a significant step toward acknowledging India's rich history and freedom struggle.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the renaming reflects the government's pledge to dismantle colonial mindsets. In a social media post, PM Modi stated that 'Sri Vijaya Puram' honors the heroism and historical importance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, blending heritage with national pride.

Union Minister Ramdas Athawale also welcomed the change, highlighting it as a tribute to the freedom struggle. Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated the islands' unparalleled role in the freedom movement and their ongoing strategic importance, linking the renaming to India's development aspirations and historical legacy.
