A total of 1561 candidates have registered for the Haryana Assembly elections, slated for October 5. Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Pankaj Agarwal confirmed on Friday that 1747 nomination papers from various political parties and independents have undergone scrutiny.
Withdrawal of nomination is allowed until September 16, post which the final candidate list for the state's 90 assembly constituencies will be released. Election symbols will be assigned the same day by returning officers. Compared to the previous elections, the number of nominees has risen significantly from 1351 in 2014 and 961 in 2019.
The Bhiwani constituency leads with 31 candidates, while Nangal Chaudhary has the fewest at 9. Other constituencies with notable numbers include Panchkula, Ambala Cantt, and Pundri. The upcoming elections are predicted to see a three-way contest between BJP, Congress, and AAP. However, seat-sharing talks between Congress and AAP have collapsed, with AAP releasing its first list of candidates. Voting is set for October 5, and the vote count will take place on October 8, alongside Jammu and Kashmir's elections.
