Coal Production Soars Amid Adverse Conditions
The country's coal output increased by 5.85% to 411.62 million tonnes in the current fiscal year despite adverse climatic conditions. State-owned Coal India Ltd saw a 2.80% rise in production. Notably, coal dispatch and stocks at coal companies and power plants have also seen substantial growth.

In a noteworthy development, the country's coal output surged by 5.85% to reach 411.62 million tonnes in the current fiscal year, up to September 12, compared to the same period last year, according to provisional data released by the coal ministry. This period last year recorded a production of 388.86 million tonnes.
Despite facing adverse climatic conditions that disrupted mining operations, the state-owned Coal India Ltd reported a 2.80% growth, producing 311 million tonnes, up from 302.53 million tonnes during the corresponding period last year. The coal dispatch sector also witnessed substantial growth, reaching 442.24 million tonnes, a 4.97% increase from 421.29 million tonnes in the previous year.
The coal stock held by coal companies has soared to 76.49 million tonnes, marking a remarkable annual growth rate of 49.07%. Additionally, the coal stock at domestic coal-based thermal power plants climbed to 36.58 million tonnes, representing a 43.68% rise. This surge underscores the sector's robust commitment to meeting the nation's escalating energy demands.
