A 68-year-old woman died after a fire broke out on the 9th floor of an apartment building in the Mulund area of Mumbai on Friday. Identified as SM Aanandi, her death was confirmed by officials.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) reported the incident at 12:24 pm at Opal Apartment, near the Sonapur signal on LBS Road in Mulund (West), Mumbai. Swift response from fire officials ensued, with dousing operations commencing immediately upon arrival.

"The fire was confined to the 9th floor of the Gr+upper 16-storey residential building. An elderly woman died in the fire incident. The reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained," stated BMC officials. Firefighting efforts are still ongoing.

Previously, on September 7, a different fire incident in Mumbai's Kurla area resulted in injuries to three people. They were safely rescued, and the fire was brought under control, per Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation statements.
