At least 14 people, including Janata Dal-United (JDU) leader Sitaram Prasad, were arrested by Bihar Police for allegedly participating in a liquor and gambling party in the Nalanda district. Station in-charge Samrat Deepak mentioned that the arrests occurred on Wednesday night following information about thriving illegal liquor and gambling activities in the Amber area.

During the police raids, 292 litres of foreign liquor, 10 decks of cards, nine motorcycles, and 14 mobile phones were confiscated. The JDU responded by expelling Prasad, who held the position of Asthawan Block President, from the party and removing him from all duties.

"According to information, JDU leader Sitaram Prasad is found involved in a liquor case. This incident has hurt the party's image. So, Asthawan block president Sitaram Prasad is being removed from all posts and expelled from the party," the party stated in a press release. The episode has sparked political upheaval.

Bihar Minister and JDU's Nalanda District-in-charge Vijay Chaudhary stated that the arrests demonstrate the government's credibility, asserting that even party members involved in illegal activities must face the law. Conversely, RJD MLA Rakesh Roshan criticized the state government, claiming that a 'liquor mafia' is flourishing under official protection.
