In a tragic incident early Thursday morning, seven individuals, including two children, lost their lives when an old wall collapsed in the Khalkapura locality of Datia. The continuous rainfall over two days weakened the wall's structure, leading to the disaster. Datia Collector Sandeep Makin confirmed the fatalities.
Local residents quickly jumped into action, rescuing two survivors who were taken to a hospital for treatment. However, the remaining seven individuals were trapped under the debris. The narrow 3-foot-wide pathway complicated rescue efforts, making it impossible for heavy machinery to reach the site.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was immediately called in, along with other local officials. Initially, three bodies were recovered by SDRF teams, with all seven bodies eventually retrieved by 11:45 am. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his condolences and announced Rs 4 lakh compensation for each deceased's family.
