In Karnataka's Mandya district, prohibitory orders were enforced in Nagamangala after a riot erupted over allegations of stone pelting at a Ganesh immersion procession. The unrest began when purported youths from different religious groups targeted the procession, leading to violent confrontations and property damage on Wednesday.
As per Nagamangala police, the clash escalated when a group of Hindus protested outside the police station, halting the Ganapati idol procession. The rioting saw shops ablaze and two police officers injured. Authorities imposed prohibitory measures to bring the town under control and detained several individuals for further investigation.
Inspector General of Police, South Division, MB Boralingaiah confirmed the situation under control but affirmed ongoing inquiries into the violence. Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy condemned the incident, criticizing the state's Congress-led government for alleged appeasement politics contributing to the unrest. He urged immediate action to restore peace.
