Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi praised the central government's bold vision for border area development during his address at the Border Area Development Conclave in the national capital on Wednesday. He highlighted that the vision prioritizes inclusivity, sustainability, and security as core principles, with border area development being a crucial element of national security.
General Dwivedi acknowledged the Indian Army's significant contributions to model villages, border tourism, and infrastructure support, including medical services and disaster relief operations. He stressed the importance of a 'Whole of Nation Approach' to achieve renewed impetus and progress in these remote areas. The vision focuses on infrastructure, smart borders, economic development, and skill enhancement to empower the next generation.
Further discussing additional issues such as disaster management, green initiatives, and healthcare, General Dwivedi emphasized the tourism potential in border areas. He advocated for a balance between development and ecological sustainability, urging that tourism be harnessed to empower local inhabitants. The Defense Minister and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister also underscored the transformation and economic benefits resulting from the 'Vibrant Village' program.
