The Patiala House Court on Wednesday rejected the bail application of Neelam Azad, accused in the Parliament security breach case last year. Additional Sessions Judge Dr. Hardeep Kaur stated that sufficient grounds exist to believe the allegations against Azad are credible, making it unsuitable to grant regular bail.
This dismissal marks Azad's second attempt at securing bail. The court highlighted that charges of conspiracy further complicate her case. Her role in the breach cannot be seen in isolation, given the broader context of the allegations.
Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Akhand Pratap Singh argued strongly against bail, citing robust evidence against Azad. He noted that the severity of the offense, risk of flight, and potential for witness tampering or evidence destruction weigh heavily against her release. Defense attorney Balraj Malik contested these claims, asserting Azad's innocence and criticizing the application of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). However, the court found the arguments insufficient to override the compelling evidence presented by the prosecution.
