Virendra Vashist, the National Secretary of the Indian Overseas Congress, has tendered his resignation after a five-year tenure, citing adherence to the Udaipur Declaration.

In a letter addressed to Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge, Vashist expressed his gratitude for the opportunities he had received and confirmed his ongoing commitment to the party's ideals. 'I am writing to formally resign from my position as Secretary of the IOC Department, AICC, in accordance with the Udaipur Declaration as I have completed five years in this role,' Vashist noted in his letter. He further stated that serving in this capacity was an honor and highlighted the valuable experiences gained during his tenure.

Vashist reassured that he remains dedicated to the Congress party's principles and is prepared to assume any future responsibilities. The Congress Working Committee (CWC) adopted the Udaipur Declaration after a three-day Chintan Shivir, aiming to infuse fresh perspectives within the party. The declaration mandates 50 percent representation for individuals below 50 years of age at all organizational levels and restricts holding a party position to five years to allow new members to step up. It also enforces '1 person, 1 post' and '1 family, 1 ticket' rules.
