The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) concerning a plea filed by Inspector Jagat Narayan Singh of the Uttar Pradesh Police, who was arrested in connection with the 2021 murder of businessman Manish Gupta in Gorakhpur. Singh is seeking a 45-day interim bail to attend and contest departmental proceedings administered by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gorakhpur.

Justice Amit Mahajan sent the notice to the CBI and requested a response, scheduling the matter for hearing on October 1. Advocate Kanhaiya Singhal, representing Singh, emphasized that his client, a government servant, needs to be present for his disciplinary sessions to ensure due process and avoid unjust dismissal.

The Rouse Avenue Court previously denied Singh's interim bail request on August 27, barring him from participating in his disciplinary hearings. The ongoing investigation, initially handled by the SIT Kanpur, has been taken over by CBI and the SCB Lucknow. The case includes six police officers, identified after thorough investigation, accused of beating Manish Gupta and resulting in his death at Hotel Krishna Palace in Gorakhpur on September 2, 2021.
