The Madhya Pradesh cabinet has approved a proposal to purchase soybean at a minimum support price (MSP) and has forwarded it to the Centre for approval.
Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan confirmed that the Centre would prioritize the state's proposal.
Meanwhile, the Congress party has launched its 'Kisan Nyay Yatra' to protest the state's ruling BJP government for not fulfilling promises made to farmers.
Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya announced that the proposed MSP for soybean has been increased to Rs 4,800 per quintal, although the final approved MSP stands at Rs 4,892 per quintal.
Despite a good soybean production year, farmers have struggled to receive remunerative prices.
