In a significant move for animal healthcare, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday inaugurated 236 mobile veterinary units (MVUs) aimed at providing comprehensive medical services to livestock farmers directly at their doorsteps.

The modern ambulances come fully equipped with essential primary medical services and testing facilities. Each unit will be staffed by veterinarians and para-medics, ensuring that immediate medical attention is available for animals in need, according to an official statement.

Additionally, Soren introduced a toll-free number (1962) linked to an integrated call centre in Ranchi, facilitating healthcare tips and ambulance services for livestock. He emphasized the government's ongoing efforts to uplift the state's farming community, highlighting the waiver of loans up to Rs 2 lakh for farmers and the introduction of an animal insurance policy.

State Agriculture Department Secretary Abu Bakr Siddique revealed that the free ambulance service will be operational in 236 blocks across all 24 districts. Farmers can access services by calling the toll-free number, which will then dispatch the necessary assistance based on the animal's condition.

State Animal Husbandry Director Kiran Kumari Pasi noted that if animals require critical care, they can be referred to veterinary hospitals using the same MVUs, which are specially designed with hydraulic systems to safely transport sick animals.
