The Shamshabad CCS Police, in collaboration with KPHB Police, Madhapur, and Narsingi police from the Cyberabad Commissionerate, detained a 13-member gang from Rajasthan on charges of executing high-tech UPI frauds and cheating scams. The gang defrauded Bajaj Electronics of roughly Rs 4 crores. The police seized Rs 1.72 lakhs in cash and an assortment of electronic goods worth Rs 50 lakhs, according to a police press release.

Multiple fraud and cheating incidents were reported at various police stations under the jurisdictions of Cyberabad, Hyderabad, and Rachakonda Commissionerates, as well as other metropolitan areas across Telangana State, resulting in losses exceeding Rs 4 crores. Following a tip-off from Bajaj Electronics, Shamshabad CCS Police, along with KPHB, Madhapur, and Narsingi police, launched an investigation which identified individuals from Rajasthan committing these crimes.

The police revealed that the gang's modus operandi involved sharing showroom UPI scanners with accomplices in Rajasthan, who would then transfer the money. Post delivery, accomplices would file chargeback complaints, reversing the transaction and returning the money to the gang. The 13-member gang, aged between 20-25 years, was divided, with some members operating in Hyderabad and others in Rajasthan.

Gang members in Hyderabad visited Bajaj Electronics showrooms to purchase high-value electronic items, sending the QR codes to their Rajasthan associates to make UPI payments. After procurement, the items were sold off, and profits were split among the gang members. (ANI)
