BSP supremo Mayawati has demanded 'strict action' against those found guilty of placing a gas cylinder on a railway track in Kanpur, which narrowly averted a major tragedy. The incident occurred as the Kalindi Express was en route to Bhiwani, Haryana, when the train driver spotted the cylinder and applied emergency brakes.

Mayawati expressed relief over the incident's failure to cause a disaster and emphasized the need for a high-level investigation to ensure public and rail safety. The episode took place near Munderi village, between Barrajpur and Bilhaur stations, around 8 pm on Sunday.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Harish Chander confirmed that emergency brakes were applied around 8:30 pm, causing the cylinder to roll off the track. The Railway Protection Force and local police are conducting thorough investigations. 'All angles are being probed,' said Chander, confirming that train services have resumed and public safety measures are being reviewed.
