Authorities in Uttarakhand have launched a probe into reports that discriminatory sign boards banning entry to certain communities have appeared in villages of Kedar Valley, Rudraprayag district. The Director General of Police, Abhinav Kumar, has ordered the Rudraprayag Superintendent of Police to investigate, following concerns about demographic changes and safety issues.

Discussing the matter with ANI, Kumar stated, 'There are reports of migrants trying to settle in hilly areas and minor girls being trapped. Some villages have put up boards to ban certain communities. We've talked to local Sarpanches to clarify that such actions are unwelcome, although concerns can be raised responsibly.'

Kumar highlighted the high influx of tourists due to pilgrimage centers in Uttarakhand. The Rudraprayag Superintendent of Police is now examining the legitimacy of the sign boards and whether they impose penalties on outsiders. A CEO-level officer leads this probe, ensuring local sentiments are considered.

Furthermore, to enhance law and order, district superintendents have been instructed to patrol until 1 am. Kumar noted that recent incidents have created a misleading narrative about the state's conditions. Sign boards in other villages, like Mainkhanda, initially discriminated against non-Hindus but were modified following police intervention. Now, new boards restrict outsiders and hawkers.
