Security measures in Manipur have been ramped up with the deployment of military helicopters for patrolling and aerial surveys after suspected Kuki militants attacked fringe areas between Bishnupur and Churachandpur, the Inspector General of Police, K Kabib, announced on Saturday. The situation has now been brought under control.

Early morning combing operations led to the recovery of sophisticated arms, ammunition, and explosives. Addressing a press conference, Kabib detailed a separate attack by suspected Kuki militants on Nungchappi village in Jiribham district, which resulted in the death of a 63-year-old civilian. Armed miscreants were also reported to have engaged in an exchange of fire with local volunteers near Rashidpur village, leading to the discovery of three dead bodies of the attackers.

In response to the increased violence, security forces have destroyed three militant bunkers in the Churachandpur region and intercepted a long-range rocket attack that killed one civilian and injured six others. Emergency prohibitory notices have been issued by the district administration to forestall further unrest. The security situation continues to be closely monitored and controlled by the combined efforts of police and military forces.
