The Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Marketing Board (APAMB) has sealed a significant memorandum of understanding (MoU) with an exporter to facilitate the sale of 5,000 metric tonnes of ginger, valued at Rs 35 crore. The agreement, signed on Thursday in the presence of state Agriculture Minister Gabriel D Wangsu, marks a milestone for the region.

According to APAMB chief executive officer Okit Palling, the exporter intends to procure fresh ginger through the board, providing advance payments of up to 30 percent of the ginger's value—pegged at Rs 20 per kg—to farmers, self-help groups (SHGs), and farmer producer organizations (FPOs). The final rate payable to farmers will be determined at the time of actual procurement, potentially amounting to Rs 30 crore.

State officials emphasize the importance of the agreement for local agriculture. Minister Wangsu underscored the superior qualities of native ginger varieties, urging the exporter to promote these over non-native variants. State Agriculture Production Commissioner Vivek Pandey highlighted the deal's significance for ensuring farmers receive fair prices.
