In a synchronized operation on Thursday, the Indian Army and Manipur Police successfully recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from the sensitive areas on the fringes of Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts. The recovered items included a heavy calibre launcher, a 12-bore double barrel rifle, a .177 rifle with a magazine, pistols, a pompi gun, grenades, and other war-like stores.
According to a press release from the PRO Defence, Manipur, the operation on 05 September 2024 marked a significant effort to restore peace and stability in the state, countering a surge in violent activities. The discovery dealt a substantial blow to the miscreants threatening the peace in Manipur.
This development followed a recent attack in Koutruk, Imphal, where Kuki militants allegedly used drones, bombs, and advanced weaponry against unarmed villagers. The attack prompted Rajya Sabha MP Sanajaoba to form a high-level committee to investigate the incident. The Manipur Police confirmed the use of drones by Kuki militants, indicating a dangerous escalation in tactics.
