In a fierce encounter with Naxals in Telangana's Bhadradri Kothagudem district, six Naxals were killed and two security personnel sustained injuries, with one in critical condition. According to police sources, the gunfire exchange occurred on Thursday morning.
Bhadradri Kothagudem District Superintendent Rohit Raj confirmed the incident, stating, "An encounter broke out between police and Maoists this morning." Further details are awaited on the operation's aftermath. On Wednesday, the bodies of nine Naxals killed in another encounter were transported to the Dantewada District Hospital mortuary in Chhattisgarh.
The earlier encounter took place in the forests between Dantewada and Bijapur, where security forces neutralized nine Naxals and recovered several rifles. Dantewada SP Gaurav Rai reported that all personnel involved were safe. Following the incident, Chattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai commended the soldiers' bravery, emphasizing the government's commitment to eradicating Naxalism.
This year, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated the government's goal to eliminate left-wing extremism by March 2026. Shah stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the fight against extremism is nearing its final phase and emphasized the importance of a strong, strategic approach in overcoming this issue.
Shah highlighted the Modi government's efforts to shift focus from violent extremism to development, urging youth involved in left-wing extremism to abandon violence and contribute to the country's progress.
