Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated a one-day workshop on Wednesday intended to aid higher educational institutions in developing their Institutional Development Plan (IDP). The initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, offering institutions a framework to outline their vision, mission, and goals for future-ready education. Pradhan emphasized the need for these plans to go beyond mere documents, aiming to achieve national goals and meet youth aspirations.

The minister highlighted the necessity of upgrading at least 5000 existing higher educational institutions into Centres of Excellence in emerging and relevant fields. He stressed that these institutions will play a pivotal role in national development if their IDPs focus on entrepreneurship, skill development, and world-class research. Present at the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) in New Delhi were notable figures such as K Sanjay Murthy, Prof M Jagadesh Kumar, and Dr NS Kalsi. Approximately 200 heads of higher education institutions across India participated.

The event also marked the release of the UGC Compendium of Regulations, comprising 15 rules, 87 regulations, and 28 notifications. This comprehensive resource, available as a PDF and e-book on the UGC website, consolidates rules and guidelines issued from 1957 to December 2023. During his address, Prof M Jagadesh Kumar emphasized the comprehensive nature of IDPs and their role in strategic development, continuous improvement, and ensuring institutions are future-ready.
