President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday emphasized that the economic empowerment of women is essential for the country's progress and development. She urged women to avail themselves of various welfare schemes offered by both the Centre and state governments.
Speaking at an event where beneficiaries of Maharashtra's 'Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana' and 'Shashan Aplya Dari' programs were awarded certificates, Murmu noted that economic empowerment would lead to personal growth for women, who constitute half of the population. She praised the Maharashtra government for aiming to make 25 lakh women Lakhpati Didis (earning more than Rs one lakh annually), with 13 lakh women already achieving this status.
Murmu also mentioned that the Centre has increased its goal from one crore to three crore Lakhpati Didis. She encouraged women to take care of their health while managing their families and called on men to support women's aspirations and recognize their potential. Additionally, she noted a growing participation of women in the country's workforce.
