The villagers of Bahraich are grappling with the menace of 'killer' wolves, prompting the Forest Department and Police to launch awareness campaigns in 25-30 villages within Mahsi Tehsil, under the Bahraich Range. The goal is to educate residents about the ongoing situation and advise them on safety measures to prevent further attacks.

According to an official statement from the Bahraich Forest Division on September 3, three teams have been formed to disseminate information through various publicity channels. A command center has been established at the divisional headquarters for information exchange. Residents can report wolf sightings or related incidents by contacting the Divisional Forest Officer at 7839435148 or the Sub Divisional Forest Officer at 7839434875.

Additional contact numbers include the Command Centre In-charge, Sub Divisional Forest Officer, Shravasti, at 9454612462, Deputy Area Officer, Rudra Pratap Singh, at 9453603467 for daytime, and Forest Inspector, Ajay Kumar Kashyap, at 9170645939 for nighttime. The area has been divided into three sectors, with 20 different rescue and patrol teams assigned to monitor the region.

The campaign's progress is reviewed by senior officers designated by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of the Department of Uttar Pradesh. On Wednesday, forest department and police officials were seen conducting door-to-door awareness drives in the wolf-affected villages, like Aurahi in Mahsi Tehsil.

Authorities have urged villagers to keep their children indoors, use mosquito nets, and sleep on rooftops at night for added safety. Residents are advised to remain indoors after sunset and secure their homes. "There is a lot of terror due to the wolves. People are scared. Teams from the forest department are spreading awareness on this matter and telling us to sleep inside the house and lock our doors at night," said Mohammad Rafiq, a resident of Aurahi village.

A massive search operation is underway in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district as wildlife authorities and forest officials aim to capture a pack of wolves that have been causing chaos. With four wolves successfully captured, efforts are now focused on locating the remaining pack members. (ANI)
