Rajya Sabha MP Sanajaoba Leishemba has constituted a high-level committee to investigate the deployment of drones by militants in a recent attack on Koutruk villagers. The assault, reportedly carried out by Kuki militants, involved drones, bombs, and sophisticated weapons, resulting in injuries to several individuals, including three policemen.

The high-level meeting, held on Monday, included key officials such as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Ashutosh Kumar Sinha, Major General SS Kartikeya, Major General Ravroop Singh, IPS officer Vipul Kumar, and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) JK Birdi. The committee is tasked with submitting a report by September 13, 2024.

Following the incident, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh condemned the drone attacks on civilians and security forces, labeling them as acts of terrorism. He emphasized the need for unity against hate, division, and separatism, asserting that the state government will respond seriously to such unprovoked assaults.

Manipur Police confirmed the use of high-tech drones in the attack, a significant escalation in the region's conflict. During recent search operations, security forces recovered a drone from Kharam Vaiphei in the Kangpokpi District.
