Tripura Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajib Bhattacharjee has emerged victorious in the Rajya Sabha by-polls held on Tuesday, receiving 47 out of 60 votes. Promising to prioritize the state's development, Bhattacharjee thanked the members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from BJP, IPFT, and TMP for their support.

Expressing his gratitude, Bhattacharjee said, "I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Bharatiya Janata Party for placing their trust in me. In the days ahead, I will work diligently for the development of Tripura." State Chief Minister Manik Saha assured that Bhattacharjee would actively raise issues concerning Tripura in the Rajya Sabha to drive progress.

Contesting on a BJP ticket, Bhattacharjee was backed by Chief Minister Saha and other MLAs during the elections. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Tripura State Committee had fielded former MLA Sudhan Das for the by-election. The seat became vacant after Biplab Kumar Deb resigned to contest successfully in the West Tripura Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 general elections.
