Gujarat's Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has laid the foundation stone for the renovation of Sri Bahucharaji Mata Mandir, an ancient Hindu temple located in Mehsana district. The first phase includes raising the spire to a height of 86 feet and 1 inch, an endeavor estimated to cost Rs76.51 crore.
The temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, has immense popularity among devotees. District Development Officer Dr. Hasrat Jasmine anticipates a significant increase in visitors. 'Like Ambaji, Becharaji is famous among devotees. People come from far and wide, even on foot. This project will develop both the temple and surrounding areas,' she noted.
Priest Janakbhai Joshi emphasized the temple's historical importance, noting its significance to the hijra community. 'The shrine marks where one of Sati Mata's hands fell 5,500 years ago. From that hand, Bahuchar Mata was created,' he said. Devotees like Ritaben Mali expressed enthusiasm, believing the renovation will attract more pilgrims and beautify the village.
The renovation underscores the temple's role in Gujarat's religious and cultural landscape, aiming to preserve and promote its rich heritage.
