Former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, was sent to 8-day police custody on Tuesday. The next hearing of the case is scheduled for September 10.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Dr. Ghosh, along with three others, over alleged corruption and financial misconduct at the institution. Those arrested include two vendors, Biplav Singha and Suman Hazar, and Ghosh's additional security, Afsar Ali.

Dr. Ghosh came under investigation following a directive from the Calcutta High Court, which ordered the CBI to probe allegations of financial irregularities. Earlier today, Dr. Ghosh and the other accused were brought to Alipore Judges Court.

At the court, lawyers raised slogans demanding justice for the deceased doctor and called for the death penalty for Dr. Ghosh. Medical tests for the accused were conducted by doctors from B. R. Singh Hospital, Eastern Railway. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) of Kolkata has also suspended Dr. Ghosh's membership amid the ongoing investigation.

On August 24, the Calcutta High Court's order led to the registration of an official FIR by the CBI against Ghosh. Junior doctors have also joined the protests, demanding the resignation of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, stating they will continue their protests until their demands are met.

'Until the Commissioner of Police agrees to meet us or resigns, we will protest day and night,' one protestor told ANI.
