The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has initiated an investigation into media reports indicating that more than 300 illicit photos and videos were taken from the washroom of a girls' hostel at an Engineering College in Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district using a hidden camera. The discovery was made by students, leading to significant protests and alarm.

In a shocking development, male students in the hostel reportedly purchased these videos, prompting police to question one individual. This incident follows a similar hidden camera case in a Bengaluru eatery earlier this month. The NHRC noted that if the reports are accurate, this represents a serious human rights violation, highlighting the failure of authorities to provide a secure environment for women.

The NHRC has issued notices to the Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police of Andhra Pradesh, demanding a comprehensive report, including the status of the police's FIR and measures taken to prevent future incidents. The authorities have two weeks to respond. The incident has sparked outrage among students, who staged a protest against the college management's alleged attempt to cover up the incident.

Students of Gudlavalleru Engineering College held a protest on Thursday night, accusing the administration of failing to take swift action. The hidden camera is alleged to have secretly recorded female students, causing severe distress and anger.
