Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi on Monday sanctioned the construction of an 8.2 km long canal-covering from Panchakki Square to Kamaluwaganja in Kaladhungi town, Nainital. The approval was given during an Expenditure Finance Committee meeting at the state secretariat.

According to an official release, the canal-covering will broaden the road, benefiting the residents of Chauphala, Kathgharia, Kamaluwaganja, Ghuni, Bhagwanpur, and Ramni. The project is expected to cost Rs 1245.64 lakh and will be completed within a year. Chief Secretary Raturi emphasized the importance of maintaining construction quality and timely execution.

The canal-covering will also transform the road from Coltax-Panchakki to Chaufula-Kathghariya into a two-lane bypass. This development is set to ease the travel for passengers commuting between Nainital and destinations like Delhi or Dehradun, via Bajpur or Ramnagar, Corbett National Park. It is anticipated to significantly reduce traffic density in Haldwani city. Senior officials from the Public Works and Irrigation Departments attended the meeting.
