CIL's Coal Production Drops 11.9% in August, Shows Yearly Growth

State-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) saw a decrease in coal production by 11.9% in August to 46.1 million tonnes. Despite this, the company's coal output for the April-August period rose to 290.4 million tonnes. CIL accounts for over 80% of India's domestic coal output.

CIL's Coal Production Drops 11.9% in August, Shows Yearly Growth

State-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) announced a significant decline in its coal production, which dropped 11.9% to 46.1 million tonnes in August.

In the same month last year, the company produced 52.3 million tonnes, according to a filing submitted to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). However, CIL's cumulative coal production from April to August rose to 290.4 million tonnes, compared to 281.5 million tonnes in the corresponding period last year. Despite the August dip, CIL remains the dominant player in India's coal sector, contributing over 80% of the domestic output.

Coal India's annual production increased by 10% to 773.6 million tonnes in the fiscal year 2023-24, falling slightly short of its 780 million tonne target. In the previous fiscal year, the company produced 703.2 million tonnes of coal.
