An eighth individual has been arrested in connection to the mob lynching incident where a migrant worker from West Bengal was allegedly beaten to death in Haryana's Charkhi Dadri district over suspicions of consuming beef, police confirmed on Sunday.

In response to the incident, the police have bolstered security in the area to prevent further unrest. Badhra Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bharat Bhushan revealed that both SSB and state police personnel have been deployed and are closely monitoring social media activity.

"The victim, identified as Sabir Malik from North 24 Parganas in West Bengal, worked as a ragpicker. A company of SSB and state police have been deployed to maintain order and we are continuously monitoring social media," Bhushan stated. He detailed that on August 27, reports emerged about certain slums in Hansawas Khurd consuming prohibited meat. A sample collected has been sent to an FSL lab for analysis, and all further action hinges on the results. Based on suspicions, the complainants then assaulted two individuals from the slums, resulting in one fatality and one injury.

The authorities have promptly arrested seven suspects, three of whom are now in judicial custody while four are in police remand. DSP Bhushan clarified that their interrogation will continue and further arrests depend on emerging leads.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dheeraj Kumar also confirmed that a case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). "The investigation is ongoing, and seven individuals, including two juveniles, have been arrested. They are being interrogated while in remand," DSP Kumar added.
