In a significant discussion on Sunday, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, addressed the ongoing relief efforts in Wayanad following the recent landslides, stressing the necessity to rehabilitate the local tourism sector as a means to aid recovery.

'Wayanad is steadily recovering from the devastation caused by the tragic landslides. While there is much to be done, it is heartening to witness people from all communities and organisations coming together in relief efforts,' Gandhi stated in a post on X.

Gandhi emphasized the importance of tourism in revitalizing Wayanad's economy post-disaster. 'Once the rains cease, it is imperative that we make a concerted effort to rejuvenate tourism in the area and encourage visits,' he noted, clarifying that the landslide was localized and Wayanad remains a prime tourist destination.

The Congress leader also highlighted various issues requiring attention such as poor interdepartmental coordination, inadequate compensation, and loss of livelihood as critical areas in the relief effort. 'We need to address poor interdepartmental coordination, inadequate compensation, renting issues, loss of livelihoods including vehicles and plantations, and tourism impact,' he stressed.
