RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das on Friday voiced optimism about the continued global expansion of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).

Speaking during a five-day visit to the state, Das noted that UPI is already operational in various countries via QR codes and fast payment system linkages. He revealed that discussions are ongoing with several other nations for similar implementations.

"We expect this to grow further at the global level and internationalise in future," Das commented. He also highlighted progress with countries including Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Singapore, the UAE, Mauritius, Namibia, Peru, and France for RuPay card acceptance and UPI network payments. These efforts reflect India's push for global adoption of its digital payment initiatives.
